“For the first time, the agricultural sector will be taxed, depending on the sales it makes,” said Vassilis Makridis, president of the Federation of Producers’ Associations of Popular Markets of Central and Western Macedonia, Thessaly and Thrace, regarding the tax bill.

In the Economic Affairs Committee of the ParliamentMr. Makridis stated his industry’s opposition to the proposed provisions that introduce presumptive income for producers of popular markets.

“We tried to create a rural KAD, so that the farmers producers in the public markets stand out from the traders. If we go to presumptive, what will happen to the profit tax? Today, the government exempts professional farmers. Now, because I will qualify as a merchant, I will have to pay 50% of the registration fee“, said Mr. Makridis and called on the government to explain “what will be done with the aid received by the sector, which is made up of farmers who sell their production retail and not wholesale and are not traders”.

The President of the Federation of Producers’ Associations of People’s Markets of Central and Western Macedonia, Thessaly and Thrace, cited information based on which the professionals who raised the issue of unfair competition, the tax treatment of farmer producers who sell in the people’s markets.

“The public market is an institution that helps the Greek consumer to live in this moment of precision. The public markets are the refuge of the producer“, said Mr. Makridis and added that the majority of producers in the public markets are small farmers.
