The lawyer of the 37-year-old owner of the dogs that mauled a 50-year-old woman yesterday in the yard of her house in Neochorouda, Thessaloniki, pointed out from the Thessaloniki Courthouse that all safety measures were observed and that the dogs were properly trained.

Mr. Christos Patounas told reporters that his client “is devastated. He expresses his deep sorrow for the loss of Elizabeth” while emphasizing that “he had the dogs in his yard fenced. The fence was two meters high, it was correct. Unfortunately, without realizing it, the dogs opened one small hole, from where they escaped. The dogs were supervised.”

Furthermore, he explained that “the measures, the dogs, were correct they weren’t aggressive, they were just guards of the House”. In fact, he pointed out that “in Oreokastro there are frequent burglaries, so every house has at least one dog. They were trained by a trainer and were well behaved. The owner was not obliged to have the dogs tied inside the house.”

Finally, the 37-year-old’s lawyer noted that “the Police checked the fence and found that a hole with a diameter of 30 cm. A very small hole that the owner would not have noticed. The door was closed, apparently the dogs escaped through that hole which the owner could not perceive.”

The tragic incident happened yesterday, around 2 in the afternoon, in the yard of the 50-year-old’s house, where the woman was doing gardening work.
The three large dogs seem to have come out of a neighboring house and, traveling a distance of fifty meters, passed the open front door of the unfortunate woman’s house and attacked her, biting her to death.

Tragic situation: The gardener who was on the property of the unfortunate woman for agricultural work is deaf and dumb, as a result of which he did not notice the attack that the 50-year-old received from the sheepdogs.
