Recruitment of 650 forest fire fighters was announced by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and the Fire Brigade.

In particular, the announcement of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection for the recruitment of 650 Firefighters of Forestry Enterprises was published in the Government Gazette. 7-year tenure in the Fire Department for the year 2024.

According to the announcement, of the 650, 620 will be firefighting technical personnel and 30 firefighting scientific personnel (foresters).

It is noted that in 2024 the Fire Brigade is expected to be strengthened with a total of 990 people.

The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection emphasized that “the reinforcement of the Fire Brigade forces with 650 new forest commanders with a 7-year term in combination with the creation of 10 new Special Forest Operations Units (SOUs) demonstrates our determination for the operational strengthening in manpower and logistics infrastructure” in the battle for the climate crisis.

“Furthermore, 240 firefighters and 50 officers are to be admitted to the Fire Brigade through Panhellenic exams and 10 pilots, 30 engineer officers and 10 doctors are to be hired,” added Mr. Kikilias.

Terms and conditions for applications

In particular, as stated in the notice:

– candidates for the specialization of Firefighting Technical Personnel, they should not have exceeded 28 years of age on December 31 of the year of the deadline for submission of the participation application, i.e. to have been born from 01/01/1995 onwards.

– exceptionally, Seasonal Employment firefighters and holders may participate in the competition degree of a Higher Educational Institution or a Technological Educational Institution, with a subject of Forestry or Forestry or a higher formal education title recognized by DOATAP or ATEEN, or holders of Forester professional qualifications recognized by ATEEN, who have not exceeded 35 years of age.

– they can also submit an application volunteer firefighters who have completed at least three years total actual voluntary servicefrom the date of acquisition of the status of volunteer firefighter until the final date of submission of the application for participation in this announcement.

– they can submit an application forest workers (employed in logging, shifting and loading of forest products) – but also resin collectors who have previous experience as forest workers, provided that they complete at least 90 official of the specialty.

According to the Official Gazette after the completion of the seven-year term, Forestry Operations firefighters may, with their application submitted three, at least, months before the completion of the seven-year term, provided they have been evaluated in all competency reports with a general classification of at least “acceptable” to become permanent, occupying permanent organizational positions of the category and specialty for which they were hired.

It is noted that candidates can submit the application to participate in the competition from Tuesday 19 December 2023 to Friday 29 December 2023 (not including holidays and weekends) from 8 am to 8 pm at the Prefectural Fire Service Commands (DIPYN) or in the Fire Service Commands (DIPY) of Athens, Piraeus, East Attica and West Attica of their place of residence or residence.
