The 35 children are crammed into box-rooms, there is only one quiet room for students with autism, while the building in many places shows cracks and signs of stability problems
Images of shame from the special school of Rethymno in Missiria.
Students of the elementary school and the Special Vocational Training Laboratory, which has 35 children, try to fit into hole-rooms, while for those who are on the autism spectrum and often need privacy and isolation, there is only one quiet room.
EEEEK, the only public secondary school in the prefecture that caters to students with special needs, is temporarily hosted by the special primary school, in a hosting that has lasted for 20 years. The school has effectively been split in two, with the students in the lab forced to study in squalid conditions in rooms- boxes.
THE dinning room of the children, a windowless room, with a table and two mattresses below, were the warehouses of primary school.
The larger halls have been divided into two or three rooms that resemble holes.
The building in many places shows cracks and indications of problems staticcausing horror at the thought that children with special needs are in these spaces every day, risking their safety.
In the kitchen, the walls are coming off, while the walls directly above it have caved in and are falling.
For 5 years now, the facilities of the former Central General Examinations Committee have been granted to the municipality of Rethymno by the ministry, in order to house the EEEEK and ENEEGYL, and they are still unused, leading to indignation of the teachers, who attribute responsibility to the attitude of the competent authorities , since the contract expires in a month and so many years, as they state, they only collect a mockery.
