On Friday, they tried to defraud the same elderly woman in the area of Serres, asking for the sum of 60,000 euros
2 people arrested in Serres committed telephone scams against the elderly with loot of 40,000 euros and jewelry worth 30,000 euros.
In particular, a man and a woman, together with their accomplices, had formed a criminal group with the aim of systematically perpetrating telephone fraud against unsuspecting citizens, obtaining an illegal financial benefit.
In terms of their modus operandi, their accomplices called their prospective victims, pretending to be either a doctor or a police officer, and claimed that a relative had been injured or had caused a car accident with a minor victim. They were asking for money to have immediate surgery or for their relative to avoid the criminal consequences of causing the car accident.
From the investigation so far, it emerged that acting with this particular methodology, they cheated elderly women in the Serres, Xanthi and Rodopi region. Yesterday they tried to defraud the same elderly woman in the area of Serres, asking for the sum of 60,000 euros, but without succeeding.
They were immediately spotted by the police getting into a vehicle owned by the man and in their possession were found and confiscated the sum of 8,250 euros, 1 pepper spray and 2 mobile phones.
The sum of 7,500 euros was awarded to the victim, while the vehicle they were using was confiscated.
Those arrested, with the case filed against them, will be brought to the Prosecutor of Serres.
