It is indicative that from the 1 million pending pensions that were before 2012, the pending pensions now amount to less than 25,000 – Georgiadis: “The waiting time for the issuance of pensions will be reduced to zero”
The EFKA (National Social Security Agency) is now entering the digital age, changing the up to now data in the insurance sector, as was emphasized today in a special event of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Guided by the service of the citizen, it is characteristic that even a day after the passing of Law 5078, as highlighted, 11,000 pending supplementary pensions were issued yesterday. In fact, the minister in charge emphasized that the Gordian link of pending pensions is breaking and that the country is setting the stage for reducing the waiting time of pensioners to receive their pension.
It is indicative that from the 1 million pending pensions that were before 2012, the pending pensions now amount to less than 25,000, indicative of the very important changes that have been made to EFKA. It is typical that within 6 months, as noted by Mr. Georgiadis, the goal of pending pensions below the limit of 25,000 was achieved. This is a revolution in the way in which the procedures for the issuance of pensions ran and it is characteristic that now the time required for the issuance of a pension is only 3 months, as underlined by the commander of the EFKA Alexandros Varveris, when in the past it could be exceeded 3 years.
But the modernization of EFKA through its digitization does not stop here. As announced by Adonis Georgiadis, the period for issuing pensions will be reduced to zero by the end of the four-year period and he announced a very important development that will eliminate any inconvenience for citizens who reserve the right to retire. In particular, EFKA will effectively anticipate the citizen who will retire in the future and will help him in advance in gathering the required documents, but will also inform him of when his first pension will be disbursed, as well as the amount he will receive. “We will go to the citizen before he thinks about his problem”, noted the minister.
The above changes were in turn glorified by the previous ministers who had the issue of pensions in their portfolio, with the Minister of National Economy and Finance Kostis Hatzidakis underlining, among other things, that in the 2.5 years of his term, 1 in 15 citizens received a pension while they were waiting for at least 2.5 years speaking of a development that justified the policies that were implemented without fear and away from the populism of the time.
In his intervention, Yannis Vroutsis, current Deputy Minister of Sports, recalled that in 2012 no one knew how many pensioners there were and how many pensions were given. In that exact time period and with the troika in Greece, the former Minister of Labor and Social Security noted that in 2013 the titanic project of the census of pensioners in person at KEP etc. began, culminating in the “Ilios” program, which gave the first sample the next day of EFKA. Continuing, he emphasized that Law 4670 of 2020 laid the foundations for the current evolution of EFKA.
For his part, Panagiotis Tsaklogou, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security, emphasized that for the creation of EFKA, 8 insurance organizations were united, which was particularly difficult and unprecedented for the public administration. On the issue of issuing pensions, he said that there will always be a small number of pending pensions, as most of them face technical issues that do not allow their quick issuance. On the same wavelength, the other deputy minister, Vassilis Spanakis, focused on the fact that Greece now has unemployment below 10%, with the government’s target of 8%, as he explained. Focusing on the changes that have transformed EFKA, Alexandros Varveris focused on the 1555 telephone line, in which 6.5 of our fellow citizens have been served to date, as he said. In fact, he added that the wait does not exceed 10 seconds.
Giorgos Floridis, Minister of Justice, was also present at the event, as Adonis Georgiadis announced the cooperation of the two ministries, in order to rid the courts of first instance of EFKA cases. It is typical, as Mr. Georgiadis said, that 50% of the cases in the courts of first instance concern issues related to the EFKA.
