His ministerial decision was issued and published in the “Government Gazette”. Minister of Labor and Social Security, Adonis Georgiadis for schedule of application of the Digital Work Card.

According to the relevant ministerial decision, from January 1, 2024, businesses whose main activity belongs to the industry sector, as well as businesses whose main activity belongs to the retail sector, must be included in the Digital Work Card system.

The Minister of Labor and Social Security, Adonis Georgiadis, said: “As we had announced, we issued today the ministerial decision on the implementation details of the Digital Work Card in retail trade and industry from January 1, 2024. The decision has come, after exhaustive dialogue with all involved. We give sufficient adjustment time to businesses so that they do not have to worry about whether they will be able to implement the Digital Job Card on time, and the conditions are based on real market data. With the Digital Labor Card, we will give full rights protection to workers and transparency to businesses.”

In detail, the sectors in which the Digital Work Card will apply from January 1, 2024 are the following:

  • Food industry
  • Distillery
  • Production of tobacco products
  • Production of textiles
  • Manufacture of clothing
  • Leather and leather goods industry
  • Manufacture of wood and manufacture of wood and cork products, except furniture, manufacture of basketry and wickerwork
  • Paper mill and manufacture of paper products
  • Prints and plays pre-recorded media
  • Production of chemicals and products
  • Production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations
  • Manufacture of rubber and plastic products
  • Production of other non-metallic mineral products
  • Production of base metals
  • Manufacture of metal products, excluding machinery and equipment
  • Manufacturing of computers, electronic and optical products
  • Electrical equipment manufacturing
  • Manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c.
  • Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers
  • Manufacture of other transport equipment
  • Furniture construction
  • Other manufacturing activities
  • Repair and installation of machinery and equipment
  • Retail trade, except trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles

The companies-employers in question are respectively obliged from the above dates to have and respectively activate a Digital Work Card system for all their employees, with a contract or a dependent work relationship, who are employed with a physical presence in the place of employment of the company, including and the employees employed in the above businesses, through borrowing.
