What does the Panattic Federation of Professional Associations of Market Sellers say?
The public markets will operate normally from Tuesday, January 2, 2024, while the implementation of the use of POS machines, for the acceptance of credit and debit cards, as stated in an announcement by the Panattic Federation of Professional Associations of Public Market Sellers.
Specifically, as stated in the announcement:
“After the New Year’s holiday, all the sellers of the street markets will be in our positions as usual from Tuesday, January 2, 2024, in every neighborhood of Greece, in order to serve the thousands of Greek consumers who trust us for their purchases throughout the years, making the best use of the triptych , quality, variety, good prices. However, at the same time as the new year, we also welcome a new era for street markets with the universal application of POS, credit and debit card acceptance machines, which is now mandatory for the benefit of everyone for the optimal service of consumers and sellers, thus satisfying a perennial demand of the industry ».
It is recalled that, from 1.1.2024 onwards, all sellers active in street markets, fairs and Sunday bazaars are required to accept both card payments (debit and credit) and direct payment services by transferring money between bank accounts, such as the IRIS online payments service.
With regard to the sanctions in cases of non-compliance, the relevant ministerial decision stipulates that for the period from 01.02.2024 to 01.03.2024 the imposition of fines on new debtors is exceptionally suspended, as long as it is proven that card acceptance terminals have been procured up to and 31.01.2024 and are pending its installation.
