Mr. Velegrakis was nominated by the faction of the new mayor Haris Doukas and during the first meeting of the body
Manolis Velegrakis is the new president of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Athens. Mr. Velegrakis was nominated by the faction of the new mayor Haris Doukas and during the first meeting of the body, which took place today, he was elected with an absolute majority.
In the same process, which was presided over by Roxani Evangelia Bei, Haris Tedomas, nominated by the faction of Kostas Bakoyannis, was elected vice-president and Despina Alebyzakis, nominated by the faction of Kostas Zachariadis, was elected secretary.
“My door will be open for all municipal councilors,” said Mr. Velegrakis, among other things, immediately after assuming his duties.
“White” was the vote of the Popular Rally. As Nikos Sofianos pointed out, it is a political stance and not an edge towards the person of Mr. Velegrakis. The faction of Kostas Papadakis left, denouncing the current framework.
Immediately after the election of the new board and at the start of the first meeting, the mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, emphasized: “We want diversity, we want a critical evaluation of our work, we want everyone’s participation.”
Afterwards, the electoral process for the nomination of the Municipal Committee followed.
