The Board of Directors of OLME declares a work stop from 11:00 to 14:00
With a gathering in Athens at 12:00 noon in the Propylaia and similar mobilizations in other cities, student associations, as well as university teaching associations, express their opposition to the establishment of non-state universities. Support and active participation in the mobilizations were announced by OLME, IOE and ADEDY.
The OLME
The Board of Directors of OLME states that: “condemns the attempt to establish private – non-state universities by the government of ND which further privatizes public Education. The government of N.D. comes to complete the reactionary changes that have been ongoing in higher education for years, it attempts to bypass article 16 of the Constitution that prohibits the establishment of private HEIs through article 28 that provides that international agreements and European law prevail over the Greek constitution. This development is turning Education more and more into a commodity, it will lead to the further degradation of degrees as well as study conditions.
The establishment of private – non-state universities will bring a direct and overwhelming blow to our degrees, to the professional rights of thousands of graduates, including thousands of permanent and deputy teachers. This expands the commercialization of qualifications and certifications to the basic degree as well.
The Board of Directors of OLME declares a work stoppage from 11:00 to 14:00 so that colleagues can participate en masse in the large student mobilizations on Thursday, January 11 throughout the country and in Athens at Propylaia at 12:00.
The Teaching Federation of Greece
The Board of Directors of D.O.E. as he states in his announcement: “unanimously supports the public nature of the Universities and calls on all teachers to participate en masse in the student/university mobilization on Thursday, January 11 at 12:00 in Propylaia (and in the mobilizations throughout the country) . In order to facilitate the participation of colleagues, we announce a 3-hour work stoppage from 11.00 to 14.00 and an additional work stop to cover the All-Day teachers and the extended hours (2.00 – 5.30pm)”.
ADEDY
