The bill brought by the government for the marriage of same-sex couples places our country in the majority European condition, that is, within what is provided for by most European legislations that have marriage, he pointed out speaking to the Thessaloniki radio station Status 107.7 and on the show of Dimitris Venieris, the Professor of Civil Law, AUTH School of Law, Katerina Fundedaki which belongs to the group of drafters of the bill that has caused reactions even within New Democracy.

In particular, Mrs. Fundedaki states that “the legislator is trying to regulate an existing situation. There are our gay fellow citizens, who live with people of the same sex and, in various legal ways, have children. With adoption, women can anyway, so this is a reality that the legislator wants to regulate. But be careful, when the legislator regulates something it does not mean that he also creates a standard with it. When the legislator regulates, for example, hunting, he does not tell us that we must all be hunters.

Well, no standard changes. But he has to set it up. It does not mean that suddenly the legislator is hostile to the usual model of the family with heterosexual parents and rejects it and puts another one in its place. It just sets up a situation. It doesn’t make this a model.”

Explaining the details of the bill, he also emphasized that same-sex couples will have all the same rights as heterosexual couples, that the legislation for spouses will also apply to same-sex couples.

Regarding the controversial issue of adoption, Ms. Fundedakis was asked the question of whether the child’s identity card or any of the child’s documents would state “Parent 1 – Parent 2” or they will write “Father – Father” / “Mother – Mother” with the teacher making it clear that:

“Parent 1-Parent 2 really was something that scared people. I assure you that there was never a thought that we would all change and stop calling ourselves mother and father and call ourselves Parent 1 – Parent 2, that will not happen”

In the press report that this could be done in a future government, Mrs. Fundedaki stated:

“Certainly in another government, the draft law of SYRIZA says this. I tell you what the current intention is. So I’m telling you that because those of us who are parents want to be called mother and father, and we don’t want to lose that designation, I don’t believe it will become Parent 1 – Parent 2.

Not even for same-sex couples – the answer is that it will be written Father – Father, Mother – Mother, that’s how it will be, that is, this terminology will not go away, at least with this legislation”.
