The 44-year-old anesthesiologist spoke of tragic working conditions at the hospital with doctors having 10-12 shifts each
A 44-year-old anesthesiologist collapsed at the end of her 24-hour shift at the “Papanikolou” hospital in Thessaloniki.
According to SKAI reporter Elena Helvatzoglou, the incident occurred late on Saturday night and the anesthesiologist, after a particularly demanding shift, felt severe numbness and it was finally determined that she had suffered a stroke.
Specifically, the 44-year-old woman had surgery from 8 in the morning until 10 in the evening, then had an intubation and then went to sleep in an emergency room which did not have sufficient heating, as a result of which her body was exhausted, numb and suffered a stroke.
Her colleagues immediately started thrombolysis and luckily managed to save her life. The 44-year-old has a small problem with her leg but the doctors are optimistic.
Finally, the 44-year-old referred to the tragic situation prevailing in the hospital. “Doctors work 10 to 12 shifts each,” she characteristically said and added that a while ago her colleague got an eye infection and almost lost it, while another doctor collapsed and broke her arm.
