It is expressed positively Association of Prosecutors of Greece (EAE) for a large number of provisions of the Ministry of Justice’s bill on interventions in the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure, pointing out that it contains provisions which “undoubtedly move in the right direction” and are proposals of the EEE.

Furthermore, the EEE reports that the changes made to the Criminal Code in 2019 created problems, which before their passage had been pointed out by the Union and “specific proposals of which unfortunately few were adopted”.

According to the announcement, these remarks of 2019 of the EEE, “were not properly evaluated, nor taken into account, with consequences the obvious increase in crime, in a way that is multiply dangerous for law and order and security, the accumulation of cases in the courts, without any reasonable prospect of improving the situation and the finding of the need to amend many of the new provisions”.

At the same time, the EEE states that the current bill of the Ministry of Justice “contains provisions that are proposals of the EEE, which undoubtedly move in the right direction”.

Specifically, the positive provisions that were adopted and are proposals of the EEE, among others, are:

– Ex officio prosecution for fraud crimes,

– Ex officio prosecution for crimes committed against the legal entity of the Greek State, legal entities under public law or local authorities,

– The increase of the maximum total sentence to be served to 25 and 10 years, for temporary imprisonment and imprisonment, respectively,

-The reinstatement of the security measure of judicial deportation,

– The abolition of the calculation of the fine in daily units, since now the fine is executed with a certificate from the competent DOU.

– The abolition of the Five-member Court of Appeal.
