Due to the event, the compulsory provision of anti-skid chains or other anti-skid means, such as snow blankets, to all vehicles moving on the roads of the prefectures of Imathia, Kilkis, Pella, Pieria, Serres and Halkidiki came into effect, with the decisions of the local Police Departments adverse weather phenomena and until they are normalized.

According to an announcement by the General Police Directorate of Central Macedonia, these are the following points: In the entire road network of the prefectures of Kilkis, Pella, Pieria and Serres, in the municipalities of Veria, Naoussa and Alexandria in Imathia, as well as on the Egnatia Odos highway that passes through the same prefecture, but also in the municipalities of Polygyros and Aristotelis, in Halkidiki.

Excluded from the measure are vehicles equipped with special tires (snow tires), i.e. they bear the special marking of the “alpine” symbol and feature M+S.

“The correct driving behavior of drivers and the observance of road traffic rules are basic conditions both for safe movement and for avoiding traffic accidents,” the announcement states.
