The bad weather that has been affecting the country since noon on Saturday is in progress, with the main characteristics being the rapid drop in temperature, snowfall mainly in the northern parts of the country and stormy winds.

Throughout the evening, the snow fell thickly in northern Greece, specifically in Thessaloniki, Florina, Kozani, Veroia, Serres, dressed in white.

A further worsening of the weather is expected for today, Sunday with a drop in temperature, heavy rains and storms in the southeast, stormy winds in the Aegean and snowfalls mainly in the highlands and semi-mountains of the central and northern country and in the highlands of Sterea, the Peloponnese and Crete.

In particular, increased clouds with rain and storms are expected in places strong in the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and Crete, as well as in the early morning hours in eastern Thessaly, Thrace and possibly in the Sporades.

Snowfall will occur in places in northern Greece even in the lowlands, in Thessaly and Central Greece in the mountains and semi-mountains and in the Peloponnese, Evia and Crete in the mountains. They will gradually stop in Thrace and from noon in Macedonia, Epirus and Thessaly.

The winds there will be north northeast winds 6 to 8 and in the Aegean locally 9 Beaufort and only in the southeast Aegean there will initially be south southeast winds 5 to 7 gradually turning to north winds with the same intensity. A gradual weakening of the winds is expected in the west from noon.

The temperature will see a noticeable drop throughout the country and will range in the north from -06 (minus six) to 08 degrees, in the Ionian, the northern Aegean and the rest of the mainland 12 to 14 degrees and in the rest of the island country it will reach 17 to 19 degrees Celsius. Frost will be noted in continental areas, in the morning hours and in the evening hours, which in the northwest will be strong in places.

Weather: Increased clouds with local rain or sleet and possible early morning isolated storms mainly along the coast. Snowfall will occur in mountainous-submontane areas as well as in low-altitude areas. Gradual improvement from noon.

Winds: North northeast 5 to 7 and in the Thracian at 8 and locally up to 9 Beaufort.

Temperature: From – 03 (minus 3) to 08 degrees Celsius. In western Macedonia it will be 4 to 5 degrees lower.

IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIROS, WEST STEREA, WEST PELOPONNISOS

Weather: Increased clouds with local rains and in the western Peloponnese sporadic storms. The phenomena from the north and from the noon will gradually weaken. Snowfall will occur in the mountains and semi-mountains of Epirus and western Mainland.

Winds: Northeast 5 to 6 and in the Ionian locally up to 7 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 06 to 14 degrees Celsius. In the north from 3 to 11 and interior of Epirus 4 to 5 degrees lower.

EASTERN STEREA, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNISOS

Weather: Increased clouds with local rain at times heavy in eastern Sterea until the morning hours. Snowfall will occur in the mountains and semi-mountains of eastern Sterea, weakening from midday.

Winds: North northeast 6 to 8 and east to 9 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 02 to 12 degrees Celsius.

CYCLADES, CRETE

Weather: In the Cyclades, clouds with local light rains. In Crete, increased cloudiness with rains and sporadic storms at times strong and snow in the mountains.

Winds: North Northeast 8 to 9 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 11 to 17 degrees.

EAST AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANISE

Weather: Cloudy with local rains and occasional strong storms. Gradual weakening of the phenomena from the north and from the noon.

Winds: In the islands of the eastern Aegean northeast 7 to 8 and in the north locally up to 9 Beaufort. In the Dodecanese initially south-easterly 5 to 7 which from noon will turn to northerly directions with the same intensity.

Temperature: In the north from 04 to 10 degrees Celsius. In the south from 11 to 17 and in the Dodecanese from 15 to 19 degrees Celsius.

THESSALY

Weather: Increased clouds with local rain and isolated thunderstorms. The phenomena that will be strong in places in eastern Thessaly and possibly in the Sporades will weaken until noon. Snowfall will occur in the mountains and semi-mountains until the afternoon.

Winds: North northeast 6 to 8 Beaufort.

Temperature: From minus two (-02) to 07 degrees Celsius.

ATTICA

Weather: Cloudy with light local rain until the afternoon.

Winds: North northeast 6 to 8 and east to 9 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 06 to 12 degrees Celsius. In the east and north the temperature will be 2 to 3 degrees lower.

THESSALONIKI

Weather: Increased clouds with sleet. Snowfall will occur in the surrounding mountains and semi-mountains and in the early hours of the morning probably in the city. Gradual improvement from noon.

Winds: North northwest 4 to 5 Beaufort.

Temperature: From minus three (-03) to 08 degrees Celsius.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW MONDAY 01-22-2024

In the central and southern clouds temporarily increased with local rains in Crete, the Dodecanese and possibly in Evia and the Cyclades. Isolated storms will occur in the morning in the Dodecanese. Light snowfalls are expected in the mountains of Sterea, Thessaly, Evia, Peloponnese and Crete, which will gradually stop after midday.

In the rest of the country, generally clear weather with a few temporary clouds.

The winds in the east will blow north northeast 5 to 7 and in the Aegean 8 to 9 Beaufort with gradual weakening from the afternoon and from the north. In the west, north-northeast winds will blow 4 to 6 and in the Kythera sea 7 to 9 Beaufort, with gradual weakening from noon.

The temperature will not change appreciably. It will range in the north from -07 (minus seven) to 08 degrees, in the rest of the mainland from -03 (minus three) to 10 to 12 degrees and in the island country from 06 to 12 to 14 degrees, while in the southeast Aegean will reach 17 degrees Celsius. Frost will be observed in places in the morning and evening hours in the continental areas, mainly in the central and northern areas.
