Facts

1878: The Greek army, consisting of 24,000 infantry, 300 cavalry and 4 artillery divisions, under Lt. General Skarlatos Soutsos, invades Turkish-occupied Thessaly without a declaration of war, to protect the Thessalian rebels. Within two days he will liberate the villages up to Domokos.

1911: The great strike of Athens tram workers breaks out. The government mobilizes strikers, the army and the police, but fails to break their spirit. Eventually they will succeed in reducing their working hours from 13-14 to 10.

1924:Lenin dies and Stalin begins machinations for his rise to the leadership of the Soviet Union.

1942: American painter Edward Hopper completes his famous painting “Nighthawks”.

1975: The leaders of the April 21st coup, after the completion of the interrogation, are taken to Korydallos prisons.

1984: Yiannis Skarimbas, An idiosyncratic poet, prose writer and playwright, who is only chronologically placed in the generation of the thirties. It is a solitary case in Greek letters, and for many years it was neglected by criticism. (Born 9/28/1893)

2020: Katerina Angelaki – Rook, Greek poet (Born 2/1939)
