The Board of Directors of ESIEA with pain says goodbye to a great lady of Greek journalism and fighter of the Left, the former Vice-President of ESIEA and current secretary of Education of the Fotini (Fani) Petralia Foundation who died yesterday.

Fani Petralia was born in 1935 in Pyrgos Ilias. He was a graduate of the Department of English Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens and also spoke Italian and French.

Her journalistic career began in February 1960 when she started working as an editor at the magazine “GYNAIKA” and then as editor-in-chief. From July 1975 he worked at the newspaper “ELEFTHEROTYPIA” and then in the newspaper “TA NEA”, as an editor of the free and cultural reportage. She was also editor-in-chief of shows at ERT.

Fani Petralia, beyond her journalistic career, passionately fought for the rights of people in the media. He was a member of the Board of Directors. of ESIEA from 1988 until 2011. In 2001 she was the first woman to be elected to the position of Vice President of the Board of Directors. Since 1998, when the ESIEA Educational Foundation was established, she has been continuously elected as a member of its Board of Directors and since 2010 she has held the office of its Secretary.

Afrom her first term on the Board she dealt with the Union’s international relations, participated in dozens of conferences of the International and European Federation of Journalists and developed contact and communication with many journalistic associations around the world. He followed the European directives, which concerned journalists as well as the best practices, while he represented the Union in a number of international meetings and conferences.

During the Junta he developed anti-dictatorial action, was arrested and tried. A person with particular sensitivities, a strong social conscience and a clear political position, he was particularly concerned with minorities, women’s emancipation, the unemployed and underpaid colleagues. As a person, he was distinguished for his kindness, gentleness, kindness, morals, sweetness of character, broad education, deep culture and strong comradeship.

As stated in the relevant ESIEA announcement, “the Board of Directors and the workers of the Union deeply sympathize with her relatives and especially her only son Konstantinos Kontovas who also belongs to the journalistic family and her brother Nikos”.
