At AUTH, at least 30 schools are under occupation
They staged a protest on Monday morning students outside his administration building Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The students are reacting to the prosecutor’s intervention for the occupations that have been taking place recently in the country’s universities, as a sign of reaction to the bill promoted by the government for the establishment of non-state universities.
It is noted that at AUTH at least 30 schools are under occupation, according to thestival.gr
In the preliminary examination for the occupations in the Universities, which the Prosecutor’s Office of the First Instance begins in two directions, the Prosecutor’s Office also puts under investigation those who participate in these protest actions, as well as persons in the administrations of the educational institutions.
In the context of the protest, the students shouted slogans against the government, asking not to pass the bill on non-state universities and at the same time denouncing an attempt to terrorize them through the intervention of the prosecutor.
At the same time, they asked not to implement the electronic examination of the courses for the winter semester. “Outside the schools, Mr. Prosecutor, take the MATs to hang out,” was one of the students’ slogans.
Dimitris Raptakis, professor, member of the ESDEP, noted in his statements on the sidelines of the protest that “this morning we had a meeting with the Acting Rector. Over the weekend there were threats and blackmail from the government to comply with their instructions. The government uses the exams to bend the competitive spirit. We asked the administration to rise to the occasion. He must stand on the blackmail as well as on the controversial bill. These degrees will have a serious impact on both labor rights and salaries, but also on our own research work.”
For his part, the medical student and secretary of the Board of Directors of the AUTH Medical student association, Christos Ignatiadis, said about today’s mobilization: “Today, the student associations are protesting here in the rector’s office against the government’s unacceptable announcements about the prosecutor’s intervention against in occupations and mobilizations. With this act, the government has made it clear that it does not really care about our studies or the examination that they put forward so much as an argument. What she cares about is getting this private university bill passed. Now they use the forms of repression, slander, terrorism of students”.
At the same time, he said that “the student associations of Thessaloniki and the whole country make it clear that we will continue our struggle. The dilemma is not an examination or a struggle, but because we are struggling to upgrade our studies we will continue this struggle. It turns out that the government instead of dealing with the main concerns of students today, the chronic underfunding, the shortage of teachers, the poor infrastructure in the universities, the tragic situation in the hostels, the fact that in many clubs the attempt to impose a price tag continues. In the face of all this effort, we will continue our struggle and will not accept terrorism.”
