The mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, states, among other things, that any projects that proceed will be done with planning and after consultation with the residents, who appealed to the Council of State
At the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Athens last Wednesday, Kostas Bakoyannis raised the issue of the reconstruction of the Hill of Strefi, talking about the interruption of the project by the current municipal authority and the loss of sponsorship amounting to 1 million euros.
With his announcement todaythe mayor of Athens Haris Doukas speaks of image of abandoning the Hill and that the goal of his own municipal authority is to make it safe, friendly and accessible and that any projects that proceed will be done with planning and after consultation with the residents, who appealed to the Council of State.
“The current municipal authority has as its primary goal that Strefi Hill is safe, accessible and friendly to the residents of the area and all Athenians, which is not the case today. On the contrary, for about two years now, under the responsibility of the Bakoyannis Municipal Authority, not only have the announced projects not progressed, but Lofos presents an image of complete abandonment,” says Mr. Doukas initially and continues: “So it is a challenge for Mr. Bakoyannis to point the finger at an alleged loss of sponsorship amounting to more than 1 million euros, when for about two years he passively and indifferently watches the area degrade and turn into a field of tensions and even conflicts. He is accountable not only to the residents of the area but also to all Athenians, because due to his inadequacy another opportunity to upgrade the city was at stake. We also note that, following an appeal by residents, the Council of State (December 2023) issued an order to stop the works. We are taking all the necessary initiatives to complete the necessary works for the safety of the residents and for the company to leave”.
And the mayor of Athens concludes: “The present municipal authority is proceeding with all renovation projects with planning, consultation, together with the residents.”
