The transmission of the testimony of the managing director of Hellenic Train, Maurizio Capotorto at the appeals prosecutor’s office of Larisa for possibility of committing the offense of perjury was decided by the investigative committee of the Parliament which investigates the Tempe train wreck. As the chairman of the committee said, D. Markopoulos, Mr. Caporto did not say an apology to the victims while admitting that he did not know about the medical problems of his company’s train drivers. The representatives of all the parties, except “Niki”, agreed with the proposal.

During the debate that followed, based on the opposition’s demands for summoning of new witnesses and in particular for the summoning of the former president of the train drivers K. Genidouniasthe chairman of the committee noticed that Mr. Genidounias he is now a managing director of Hellenic Train and right-hand man of Mr. Caporto and that no union statement has been recorded for the testimony of the company’s managing director. SYRIZA-PS MP V. Kokkalis said that the majority does not want Mr. Genidounia’s testimony because it does not benefit the government. The representatives of the opposition spoke in favor of the summoning of other witnesses, while, as repeated by the ND MP L. Tsavdaridis, the list of witnesses remains open.

It is noted that Mr. Markopoulos read a statement of 29 relatives of the victims of the accident of February 28, 2023, with which the committee members are called (a) suspend their meetings until the completion of the interrogation conducted before the appellant-investigator Larisa (b) request and receive a copy of the criminal case file, and then resume their meetings, (c) examine other witnesses with a substantial contribution to the expansion of criminal liability of political persons and (d) to issue a joint opinion.
