The news of the death of the veteran journalist Efstratios (Takis) Diamantis, who “passed away” on Friday, February 11 at the age of 80, caused sadness in Greek journalism.
Takis Diamantis was born in New Philadelphia in 1942. After finishing his high school studies, he studied at the School of Journalism “HOMER” while at the same time practicing various professions to earn a living. In 1968 he started his career with unpaid journalism, as an assistant reporter in the newspapers “ETHNOS” and “APOGEVMATINI” and at the same time he studied in the foreign bulletin of the newspaper “AKROPOLIS”. In 1969 he was employed in the financial newspaper “CHRIMA”, after the closure of which he switched to the foreign bulletin of “APOGEFMATINI”, until 1971. He continued his career in the press and from 1978 onwards in the newspaper “ELEFTHEROTYPALIA” during the war in Yugoslavia in 1991, and also collaborated with Deutsche Welle and the newspapers “EPIKARIOTITA” and “ETHNOS”. He worked for the foreign bulletin of the Public Television for a number of years and was the editor-in-chief of the magazine “ANTI” until 2008. He spoke English, French and Spanish.
“Takis Diamantis was a model of morality and consistency and showed a developed sense of team solidarity throughout his working life. “He was a conscientious professional and a man with innate courtesy, wit and perfection of character,” ESIEA said in a statement.
The Board mourns his family, his only son and his wife and companion journalist Marina Vihou and bids farewell to his good colleague, another representative of the good old generation of press officers.
The cremation of the body of Takis Diamantis will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, February 15, at 1.30 pm, at the Ritsona Incinerator.
