Russia is ready to open fire A senior Russian military official told the Interfax news agency on Monday that foreign ships and submarines would enter its territorial waters illegally.
However, any such decision will be taken only at the “highest level”, the official clarified.
The Kremlin also announced that President Vladimir Putin will meet today with his Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense.
On Saturday, the United States denied that it had conducted military operations in Russian territorial waters, after Moscow announced that a Russian Navy vessel had pursued a US submarine in Russian territorial waters in the Pacific.
The Kremlin also said it would not comment of the envoy of Kiev in London mark a formal change in Ukraine’s position that it wants to join NATO, but said it would help allay Russia’s security concerns if Kiev renounced its intention to join the alliance.
The Ukrainian ambassador to London made a 180-degree turn regarding NATO membership. Ambassador Vadim Pristaiko had initially told the BBC that Ukraine was prepared to be “flexible” in its goal of joining NATO, and that Kiev was shocked by his comments.
Today, there are estimated to be 148,000 Russian troops stationed on the Ukrainian border – backed by thousands of tanks and artillery – with Washington and London warning of war, and Washington talking of a Russian offensive as early as Wednesday.
