The DCO is an international organization whose main objective is the dissemination of knowledge and the exchange of practices among its member states.
The inclusion of Greece as a full member in the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) was announced by the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, in the context of the 3rd General Assembly of the DCO.
The Assembly was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications of the Kingdom of Bahrain Mohamed bin Thamir Al Kaabi and the participation of Deemah AlYahya, Secretary General of the DCO, in Bahrain on Wednesday 31 January 2024.
During his presentation, the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou underlined: “Greece’s goal is to actively contribute to the promotion of regional policies in the digital sector. With a clear people-centric approach and the understanding that technology should be inclusive and serve the well-being of citizens and societies at large, we will work to undertake strategic initiatives and adopt coherent policies that will empower innovation, digital inclusion and effective governance. Key pillars, which we aim to actively promote through this partnership.”
The member states of the DCO confirmed their commitment to building a flexible and efficient organization, which, leveraging transnational cooperation, will promote the sustainable and inclusive development of the global digital economy.
In addition, they announced the launch of three new initiatives: The “GenAI Center of Excellence”, which will trigger the creation of a network of state-of-the-art facilities, the “Data Embassy” which will support the creation of a network of secure data storage facilities, and the ” Online Content Integrity’, which will address the challenges of misinformation on social media and online platforms.
It should be pointed out that the DCO is an international organization whose main objective is the dissemination of knowledge and the exchange of practices between member states. The aim is to adopt the best policies and create the right infrastructures to develop fairer, inclusive digital economies while reducing the digital divide. Currently, apart from Greece, 15 additional countries are participating: the Kingdom of Bahrain, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the Republic of Cyprus, the Republic of Djibouti, the Republic of the Gambia, the Republic of Ghana, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the State of Kuwait, Kingdom of Morocco, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sultanate of Oman, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, State of Qatar, Republic of Rwanda and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
