ELAS released, following a relevant Order of the Athens Prosecutor’s Office, the identity data and photos of fifteen locals, accused of being members of a criminal organization that committed burglaries and thefts in homes in Attica and Corinth.

In the morning hours of 1-2-2022, police officers of the Property Crimes Department of the Attica Security Directorate, with the assistance of OPKE and EKAM teams, carried out an organized operation in the areas of Ano Liosia, Egaleo and Zefyriou, for locating and arresting members of a criminal organization that committed theft from homes.

As part of the operation, twelve (12) locals were arrested, while three (3) additional members of the organization were identified and are wanted.

A case was filed against them for the -in the case- offenses of the criminal organization by individuals who have been organized with the aim of committing thefts in conspiracy, committed and in an attempt, over 120,000 euros, violence against employees, forgery, arson, attempted aggravated assault. damage, disobedience, acceptance of proceeds of crime and violations of the Law on Addictive Substances, on Weapons, Money Laundering and on Flares and Fireworks.

Regarding the way the organization operates and as it emerged from the many months of research:

The members of the criminal organization had as a base the neighboring areas of Zefyrio and Ano Liossia and chose as their areas of action on the “axis” of the Attiki Odos (Chalandri, Vrilissia, Kifissia, Porto Rafti, Rafina etc) they could easily choose houses where gain access or climb.

After inspecting each house, checking the type of door, windows, alarm, security cameras, guard dog, etc., making sure of the absence of the occupants, they turned off the alarm and video recording systems and used a car. cars, whether stolen or rented and falsified license plates for full coverage at the time of the theft, burglars and smokers were in constant telephone contact, using only “business” telephone connections and coded phrases were usually violated balcony doors or climbed on the balconies and with crowbars broke the windows of the houses and entered inside, from where they removed money, jewelry and electronic devices.

In all cases where the occupants were inside their homes, they pretended to be employees of the Electricity Company (in some cases the Security Police or the envoys of the Mayor of the area) and persuaded their victims to allow them to enter.

Then they were employed under various pretexts and at the same time other accomplices entered the house, searched the other areas and removed money, jewelry and valuables.

The items they removed from the burglaries and thefts they committed, they channeled to pawnshops and thieves. In addition, they “laundered” the proceeds from their criminal activity, buying cars, plots, while the leader of the organization operated a business-store in his name.

A -15- search of homes and a search of a store were carried out, during which the following were found and confiscated:

From the investigation so far, it appears that the members of the criminal organization have committed -46- burglaries in homes, -13- attempts, theft of a vehicle and arson of a vehicle.

The total benefit that the criminal organization gained from its action exceeds -510,000- euros.

In addition, a number of cases have been filed against the accused in the past, for similar offenses.

The arrested, with the case against them, were taken to the Prosecutor of the Athens Court of First Instance, while the investigation to determine the full extent of their criminal activity continues.
