More than 200 motorcyclists were spotted riding without a protective helmet, while 179 car drivers had ‘forgotten’ their seat belts and another 97 were spotted using their mobile phone
They were caught in the traffic nets 4,580 drivers in Attica on the five days of February 1-5 for a series of violations of the Road Traffic Code (C.O.K.), the main ones being driving while intoxicated, speeding, not wearing a protective helmet and seat belt.
In total, 163 misdemeanor prosecutions were brought for deprivation of a driving license, while 271 driving licenses and 247 vehicle registration licenses were revoked. In 396 vehicles the police removed the number platesin 426 in some cases they immobilized the vehicles and in another 106 they proceeded to transport them.
More specifically, in 24-hour checks throughout the basin by police officers of the Traffic Accident Control and Prevention Teams (T.E.P.T.A.) of the Attica Traffic Directorate and the local Traffic Departments, 470 violations were recorded for excessive speed and 5 for impromptu racing. Also, 208 drivers were found to be drunk. Of these, six were arrested and in the same number of cases misdemeanor charges were brought.
A large number of motorcyclists were spotted riding without protection helmet (227), while 179 car drivers had “forgotten” their seat belt and others 97 were spotted using their mobile phone. In addition to, 59 drivers were detected violating the “red” at traffic lights and 155 to move on the bus.
Furthermore, 102 drivers were identified who had not “passed” their vehicles through the KTEO and 87 who did not have an insurance policy.
Violations were also detected in the tachograph (72 cases), while in 21 cases violations of Law 3446/2006 for trucks were found.
The Attica Traffic “harvest” also includes 24 violations for exhaust noise, 18 for illegible license plates, 17 for tinted windows and 8 for lack of mirrors. Also, 1,611 calls were “cut” for illegal parkingwhile 1,124 various other violations of the C.O.K.
Controls continue throughout the territory.
