The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship “Archimedes” of EKPA, reflecting on the enormous destruction of our country from the recent fires and floods, took the initiative to contribute to the effort to deal with these significant effects
Nine innovative proposals with the use of modern technologies related to the prevention, management and restoration of the effects of natural disasters, a consequence of climate change are at the center of the assessment of the Committee established by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship “Archimedes” of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA), in the context of the relevant Competition.
More specifically, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship “Archimedes” of EKPA, reflecting on the enormous destruction of our country from the recent fires and floods, as a consequence of climate change, as well as the significant challenges with environmental, health, social and economic impact that they bring, took the initiative to contribute to the effort to deal with these important impact, connecting the university to society.
In this context, he invited the members of the EKPA university community, individual researchers and/or research groups consisting of at least one EKPA faculty member, to submit an application for their participation in the Competition to highlight innovative solutions for the prevention, management and recovery from the effects of natural disasters, such as fires and floods, as a consequence of climate change.
Purpose of the Contest is to encourage researchers to consider the practical applications of their research results for the development of solutions to prevent and deal with natural disasters, as a consequence of climate change. Also, to contribute to the highlighting and promotion of applied research that has an impact on both society and the economy.
The Chairman of the Proposal Evaluation Committee is Efthymios Lekkas, Professor of Dynamic Tectonics Applied Geology & Natural Disaster Management at the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
From the nine proposals that are under evaluation, the first three will be selected, which with the support of ElvalHalcor, of the Biohalco Group, will receive monetary prizes 10,000 euros, 6,000 euros and 4,000 euros. At the same time, all the teams that will participate in the Competition will automatically have the opportunity to participate in the next Business Acceleration cycle offered by the Archimedes Center, to investigate the possibility of business development and further exploitation of the proposed solutions.
The presentation and award ceremony will take place on February 15 between 10.00-13.00 in the “Kostis Palamas” building of EKPA (Academia and Sina) and is open to the entire teaching and research community of EKPA.
