The 42-year-old accused of stomping to death a newborn cat, in August 2022, on Ermou Street, in the center of Thessaloniki, was acquitted by the will of the competent Judicial Council.

Evaluating all the available evidence, the judges of the Criminal Court of Thessaloniki came to the conclusion that he is not the perpetrator of the heinous act and consequently acquitted him of the criminal charge against him, issuing a relevant decision which has already become irrevocable .

The 42-year-old, lawyer and university doctor, had become an accused after an investigation by the White Tower Police Department, which was triggered by a complaint by an animal welfare organization. The evidence against him was material from a security camera in the area, as well as a testimony from a shop owner.

From the very beginning, he denied the accusation attributed to him, stating that he has nothing to do with the person depicted in the video material. In this direction, he presented the investigator who handled the case with an expert’s technical report and historical photographs of the same, which were compared with these case files.

In the exculpatory will it is described that the person depicted in the specific material is clearly different both physically and in facial features from the accused, while the above testimony was evaluated by the judges as unconvincing and unreliable. In the absence of other evidence, the judges decided to acquit him.

My principal suffered enormous humiliation and moral damage from this case, but he feels vindicated. “After all, he is an elite member of the society of Thessaloniki and such unacceptable acts are not consistent with his character and education,” said Costas Tsakos, the 42-year-old’s defense attorney, speaking to APE-MPE. Commenting on the testimony that incriminated the man, Mr. Tsakos stated that “the one who allegedly recognized him testified selfishly and driven by humble motives».
