“Today’s mobilization is symbolic and what we want to achieve is to finally be heard,” said the vice-president of the Kilkis Agricultural Cooperative, Dimitris Vafiadis
In a symbolic two-hour blockade of the Kilkis customs office located at the Metallikou Railway Station on the Thessaloniki-Doirani highway, farmers and breeders of the area proceeded from 10.20 in the morning. By lining up their tractors and agricultural vehicles they put a brake on the passage of trucks and customs clearance of goods.
“Today’s mobilization is symbolic and what we want to achieve is for the rulers to finally listen to us and satisfy our just demands”, points out the vice-president of the Kilkis Agricultural Cooperative, Dimitris Vafiadis, speaking to APE-MBE.
He adds: “finally, a national strategic plan must be made for the primary sector in our country, which will be followed by all the government representatives of the country, current and future, so that piecemeal movements and actions that ultimately work as aspirin will stop to our accumulated problems. We are not beggars, what we want is to become sustainable and continue to cultivate the Greek land, producing quality and safe food for Greek consumers, supporting the Greek countryside that is heading towards desertification”.
According to information from the customs office, 30-40 trucks carrying goods for export pass through it every day and about 20-30 make imports from third countries. These numbers depend on the day and the period.
