The Greek skier was found dead which was crushed by an avalanche according to Bulgarian media. The Greek was a member of a team of skiers and snowboarders.

The Bulgarian authorities searched for hours for the Greek skier after an avalanche in Borovets, Rila mountain and his body was finally found.

The incident was reported to Bulgarian authorities at around 2pm. A rescue operation was organized by the Mountain Rescue Service, in which more participated of 25 people and four dogs.

According to accounts that have not been verified, the Greek, and some unconscious people, were poorly equipped.

“Earlier we met the team and commented that the place is very dangerous. A few minutes later we saw them going down the steepest part one after the other. They didn’t carry backpacks. Obviously, they were not prepared,” Stefan Hristov, one of the rescue participants, explained to the bTV network.

“Greek citizens were involved in the incident. They had no avalanche gear in them, which is mandatory for off-piste skiing. Markudjik 3 track is currently not operational, and they deliberately took the risk there. They entered an extremely dangerous territory,” said the director of the mountain rescue service, Emil Neshev.
