The “trident” Skaramagkas-Elefsina-Syros is evolving into a hub of shipbuilding and technology with a wider international character. This was noted by the president of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vassilis Korkidis, in an interview given today to the Italian channel Rai.

According to a post by the president on social media, regarding what he said in this interview, he referred to the ongoing effort for Greece to return to the group of countries with a strong shipbuilding industry.

The first step, as he said, was taken by Panos Xenokostas with ONEX in Neorio, Syros, followed by the ship owner George Prokopiou with Skaramaga Shipyards. He reminded that a few days ago ONEX announced its partnership with the Italian Fincantieri, which is the 4th largest shipbuilding group in the world, and the support of the American company International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).

The president of EVEP, underlined that the “trident” Skaramagkas-Elefsina-Syros is evolving into a hub of shipbuilding and technology with a wider international character, since the three shipyards will acquire production verticalization from the design stage, where they will have platforms and ready ship support. The Greek Prime Minister recently spoke about the events and the next day of the shipbuilding industry in Greece during his participation in the work of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change COP26.

Finally, he referred to the world leadership of the Greek-owned merchant fleet, as a maritime superpower that corresponds to 58% of the European and 20% of the world fleet and noted the initiative of Greece for the carbonization of maritime transport. Finally, extensive reference was made to Cosco’s investment in the port of Piraeus, to the interest of corresponding investments in Italian ports, to the arrhythmia of the supply chain and to the high transport costs of containers from China to Europe.
