The farmers at the pan-Hellenic meeting decided to head en masse to Athens with their tractors, but also with cars and buses
The Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, is meeting with the farmers today at 13:00 at the Ministry of Macedonia Thrace in order to jointly organize their descent to Athens on Tuesday night, as was decided at the pan-Hellenic meeting of the block committee in Nikaia, Larissa.
In particular, at the meeting, the farmers decided to head en masse to Athens with their tractors, but also with cars and buses.
On the same day, those left behind at the roadblocks will proceed with parallel actions at customs and ports.
After the meeting with the prime minister on Tuesday afternoon, the farmers decided to escalate their agitation as they rejected the governments proposals, saying that their demands were not met.
The president of EOAS Larisa, Rizos Maroudas noted that immediately the blocs should measure their strength and maintain their union.
As stated by the president of the Federation of Agricultural Associations of Larissa, Mr. Rizos Maroudas, “we decided to continue the mobilizations, because our basic demands have not been met. We believe that through the continuation of the struggle we will get answers from the Government. We have decided to hold a big rally on the evening of next Tuesday, February 20, in Athens with tractors, farm cars and buses, inviting the farmers to participate en masse, but also the people of the capital to treat this rally as their own rally. At the same time, on the same day we will escalate to customs and ports”.
He also denounced “the attempt to suppress and intimidate the colleagues who are with their tractors in customs and ports of the country and are fighting for their survival facing not only the MAT but also threats of lawsuits”, adding that “the Government must to take the responsibility on her shoulders and give a political solution to the problem”.
“We continue united, we are determined. We are right and we must survive” was the message sent by Mr. Maroudas.
