There will be no flights to and from Heraklion Airport “Nikos Kazantzakis”from tomorrow, Monday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday, February 24, due to asphalt paving work on a section of approximately 700-800 meters of the main runway.

The works, as mentioned by the airport master Giorgos Pliakas, will be done in the middle part of the runway, pointing out that with this asphalt paving and those that have preceded the Airport in previous years, there will essentially be a new asphalt carpet on at least half of the runway.

Mr. Pliakas mentioned that in order to serve the passengers, the airlines have increased the routes to and from Chania and Sitia airports, while he noted that the choice of this period for the work was not accidental, since it is the week with the lowest passenger traffic of the whole year.

“There have been other modernization projects at the airport” said the airport master, clarifying that these are related to both the central air conditioning units and the new buses that will transport passengers to the planes. “If we consider that it is an airport that has a date end of operation, I think that what we are doing are quite important steps, to be able to serve passengers better, until we go to the new International Airport of Heraklion in Kasteli, where we will serve them much better” pointed out Mr. Pliakas.
