The farmers with honking horns cross the Larissa-Athens highway heading first towards the Castle of Boeotia where they will join other colleagues from Thessaly, camp and spend the night tonight at this point.
In about 24 hours, the big meeting of farmers from all over Greece has been given in Athens for the rally that will take place in Syntagma.
According to onlarissa.gr, the Larissa farmers started their journey to the capital from the Platykambos interchange this Monday morning, after first fueling their tractors and agricultural vehicles. Farmers cross the Larissa-Athens national road heading initially towards the Castle of Boeotia where they will join other colleagues from Thessaly, camp and spend the night tonight at that particular spot. Tomorrow Tuesday morning they will start again for the capital.
After a broad meeting of EL.AS. it was decided that all tractors, farmers’ vehicles will reach Athens Avenue and from there to Karaiskaki Square and then to Omonia Square. Agricultural machinery will move towards Syntagma from only one road, either on Panepistimi or Stadiou, and one should be open for the traffic of ambulances, fire brigade, etc. So whichever road is decided, either Stadiou or Panitemiou, that is where the tractors will be parked.
The presence of the farmers from Larissa will be particularly dynamic in tomorrow’s rally, as 10 buses have been chartered, while many will use their cars as a means of transport. It is estimated that more than 700 Larisa farmers will attend.
On the way to the capital and crossing the national road, the farmers blow their horns at intervals and make their presence particularly noticeable.
In fact, they have posted various videos on social media where the convoy is depicted and they write various messages on them such as: “We are coming we will win” and “All roads lead to Athens”.
The videos have been “dressed up” with various Greek and foreign songs, wanting to show that they are unstoppable in their fight.
Government regulations on Tuesday
Traffic regulations on the central roads of Athens will be in effect tomorrow, Tuesday, due to the planned gathering of farmers in the early afternoon.
See the map with the roads affected:
Specifically, according to the traffic information:
Due to the upcoming gathering – protest of farmers on Tuesday, February 20 in the center of Athens, the Hellenic Police has drawn up and will implement an integrated network of measures for the orderly and safe conduct of the mobilizations.
The central axis of the design was to ensure the fundamental right of citizens to assemble, without unduly disrupting the social and economic life of the city.
In this context, traffic measures adapted to the situation will be taken with the corresponding traffic regulations, so that the movement of the farmers can be carried out safely for them and other users of the road network, all the way from the periphery to the center of Athens.
In particular, the movement of the agricultural tractors will be accompanied by patrol cars of the Hellenic Police with a specific route both from the Castle of Boiotia and from Megara Attica, where they are expected to gather before the transition to Athens. At the same time, so that there is no additional traffic burden, the buses that will transport farmers have been planned to park at the Olympic Stadium. Due to the measures, modifications are also expected to be made to the routes and stops of the means of transport (Buses – Trolley).
The head of the Traffic Monitoring and Control Operations Chamber (T.E.P.E.K.), Police Deputy Director Theofanis Anagnostou, will inform you about the exact traffic measures and traffic regulations that will apply.
