On the occasion of the completion of two years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russians and Ukrainians living in Cyprus are protesting – Is Oleg Navalny, brother of Alexei, in Cyprus?
Demonstrations condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the occasion of the completion of two years since the start of the war are being held today Saturday by Russian and Ukrainian citizens residing in Cyprus.
The protest events, which were organized on social media and have as their slogan the phrase “two years of terror”, are taking place simultaneously in all the cities of Cyprus in the afternoon, in places such as the Russian embassy in Nicosia and the Russian consulate in Limassol.
In addition to calling for an end to the war, the participants will also denounce the Russian government for the death of Alexei Navalny. After all, in recent days in Cyprus, symbolic actions have been taking place almost every day to denounce the Russian government for the death of the Russian opposition activist.
Cypriot government: We have no information about Navalny
Characteristically in Limassol, the central square of the city was turned into a monument for Alexei Navalny, as members of the Russian community of Cyprus light candles and leave flowers every day, honoring his memory.
Something similar is happening in Nicosia where a photo of Alexei Navalny was placed in front of the statue of Yuri Gagarin in the capital’s Municipal Garden.
Besides, the Navalny case was linked to Cyprus just the day before yesterday on the occasion of the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Russian authorities against the brother of the Russian dissident, Oleg Navalny. Specific Russian publications referred to the possibility that Cyprus is one of the countries where Oleg Navalny fled after leaving Russia.
Although the Russian reports were not denied, government sources declare that the Cypriot government has neither information nor evidence to confirm such a scenario.
