Today, one day and one year after the Tempe disaster, it begins the cycle of deposits of the 16 employees of ERGOSE to the appellate investigator who has been investigating the case since last March.

All 16 are being prosecuted for the felony of disturbing the safety of transportation committed by acts, actions and omissions and for the misdemeanors of manslaughter, grievous bodily harm and slight bodily harm by serial negligence. These are managing directors, board chairmen and board members of the organization in the period from 2016 to the time of the accident in February 2023.

Their prosecution is related to the contract for the restoration of the Signaling – Remote Control System of the Athens – Thessaloniki – Promachona railway section, i.e. the infamous contract 717, and its non-implementation at the time of the offense.

We remind you that the contract was initially signed in 2014 with an implementation horizon of 2016, but due to the many extensions that were given, on February 28, 2023, when the two trains collided, the elements foreseen in it, such as the operation of the remote control and the light signaling, had not yet been implemented .

The beginning of the statements of the executives to the appellant investigator is expected to start today and be completed on March 8.

It should be noted that yesterday the final conclusion of the Commission of Inquiry of Independent Family Experts (EDAPO) was delivered to the appellant investigator by one of its members, Mr. Apostolos Lakafosis, while the Plenary Session of the Presidents of the Bar Associations of Greece will present to the appellant investigator their of the conclusion carried out by the technical consultant they appointed.

At the same time, the determination of the statements of the two executives of Hellenic Train who are being prosecuted for misdemeanors is pending, while it remains to be seen what investigative acts the appellant investigator will proceed with after the intervention of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court who requests to examine the complaints of the families of the victims that have to do with mainly with ignition and fire.
