Pieria is measuring its wounds from the intense weather phenomena and the heavy rains that have hit the prefecture in the last few hours, causing serious damage to infrastructure, houses and crops.

A team of ELGA will visit the municipal communities of Agios Spyridon, Vrontos and Kontariotissa, of the municipality of Dion – Olympus, in order to record the damage to crops caused by the recent natural disaster.

The visit of the competent level of the ELGA services was planned to take place as soon as possible, after the cooperation of the municipality of Dion – Olympus with the Deputy Minister of Development Anna Mani – Papadimitriou, the deputy governor of Pieria Sofia Mavridou, the MPs Fonta Baraliakos and Spyros Kulkoudina, in consultation with the president of ELGA Andreas Lykourentzos.

In the municipality of Katerinis, the entire mechanism is in constant operational action and alertness. According to the assessment of the situation so far, as recorded in a relevant press release, the heavy rains caused flooding and damage to the spillway of the Trilofos damat the pumping stations of the specific dam, as well as of of Exohis dam. It is difficult to access all areas of irrigation infrastructure in the Elafina section, at the Meliadi and Moschopotamos dams, in which the amount of damage will be accurately recorded in the coming days.

Echelons of the municipality of Katerini proceeded from the morning in the first registrations in the affected areas of the communities: Moschohori, Lofou, Svoronou, Neokaisaria, where the disasters are intense in the rural and urban network of the settlements, in irrigation infrastructures, etc. Also, damage was recorded in the areas of Arona, Ganochora, Ano Agios Ioannis, while the problems are smaller on the coastal front of the municipality in Korino, Paralia, etc.

Damage from the heavy hail was caused to houses and warehouses throughout the region, in the plant capital, in Moschohori, in Lofos and in Neokaisarea, while from the heavy rains and in the livestock capital, in the community of Svoronos. The municipality of Katerinis announces that in the next few days ELGA teams are expected in the affected areas to assess the extent of the damage and to start the compensation procedures for the damage to the plant and animal capital. Assessing damage to infrastructure, homes and businesses will begin immediately as the severe weather subsides.
