The police are trying to prevent the farmers of eastern Thessaloniki from gathering at the Thermi flyover, as they were scheduled to do today (17/2).
According to what the president of the Thermi agricultural cooperative, Charalambos Dimarchopoulos, told GRTimes, in the previous days there was an agreement with the police in order for this pre-concentration to take place.
Authorities, however, today prevented his colleagues from approaching the spot. Despite the efforts of the police, the first tractors have already arrived at the Thermi junction and there is a wait for what the other farmers in eastern Thessaloniki and Halkidiki will do.
Farmers are currently trying to reach the spot by passing through fields, in order to avoid police blockades.
At the same time, three police cages have already arrived at the Thermi junction, while consultations are currently taking place, with the farmers asking their other colleagues to arrive at the spot.
In detail, the requests of farmers:
Production costs and abolition of the power adjustment clause.
Duty free oil for all farmers and stockbreeders.
Reduction of prices for agricultural supplies, fertilizers and pesticides.
To change the regulation of ELGA and the compensations to be given at 100% and in fact the money to be paid when the production of each farmer is sold. Cotton growers in October, corn growers in September, etc.
What are they asking for in addition
Lower guaranteed prices on all agricultural products in order to cover the production costs and, above all, to leave something in the pocket of each producer.
Linking the subsidy to production. Whoever produces is paid.
To replenish the income of farmers who will lose money from the EU decision, based on the Common Agricultural Policy, to abolish certain pesticides.
For example, if the drug for the worm in the cotton growers is abolished and part of the production is inevitably lost, the “loss” will be covered by the State.
