On the contribution of technology, artificial intelligence and modern equipment to before and during natural disasters mentioned, among others, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias at the opening of the exhibition “Technology in the fight against fires. Inventions help us build a better world”, which takes place at Zappeio Megaro and is organized by the European Patent Office in collaboration with the Industrial Property Organization with the valuable contribution of the Fire Brigade, the National Observatory of Athens and the Agricultural University of Athens.
As Mr. Kikilias said, for the combination of artificial intelligence, new technologies and modern equipment, a way should be found to “channel it into prevention, treatment and the part of rehabilitation”.
At the same time, the minister emphasized that the challenges are also great for 2024, while he added that preparations are being made in the area of ​​prevention, of coping and technologies doing everything humanly possible to deal with this situation. Mr. Kikilias referred to the AEGIS program of 2.1 billion euros, for which, as he said, all tenders will have been announced by the end of March. “At the end of March 2024, i.e. at the end of the month, we will have announced all the tenders of the AEGIS program in a shocking effort with all the agencies involved in the last months” he said and underlined that the AEGIS program will be an important legacy, dowry, for the next generations as, as he pointed out, they expect from the next fire season and for the next years to gradually receive all this equipment.
He concluded that the people of the Fire Department, all the security forces and the armed forces “go to work in the morning and it is not certain that they will come back in the evening to protect us, our property and the natural beauty. They deserve our support and help in a difficult endeavor.”
