The former governor of Attica, Rena Dourou, is definitively innocent of the flood in Mandra, where 25 people lost their lives, as the appeal filed by the prosecutor after her acquittal in the first degree was deemed out of time.

The Five-Member Misdemeanor Appeals Court, where the case involving the tragedy in Mandra is heard, accepted the objection submitted by a total of six defendants – including Rena Dourou – for whom an appeal was filed by the Prosecutor’s Office against their acquittal. After the decision that ruled that the said appeal was out of time, the trial will continue with eight defendants in the dock.

According to the decision announced by the president of the court, “the Prosecutor’s appeal was out of time without reason of force majeure. Therefore, the appeal filed is rejected as inadmissible.”

Eight officials of the local government and competent state agencies are on trial for the case, who were sentenced in the first instance to sentences of up to six years, but without anyone going to prison
