“There is no fear regarding the issue of meningitis and Patras is a safe destination from a health point of view,” said the Governor, referring to the three cases of meningitis among students in the last two months. “From what we can see and from the messages we receive, this year we are expected to have more visitors than ever. The city and its market need them,” he added.
According to Mr. Karvelis, for the issue of meningitis, approximately 600 students will be given preventive chemoprophylaxis and preventive medication administration in consultation with the Rector’s authorities, while the information of the students from the EODY level continues. At the same time, Mr. Karvelis informed that three vaccines against meningitis have already been given in contacts with the three cases.
Regarding the 20-year-old student of the University of Peloponnese, the Commander of the 6th Ministry of Health reported that he is in better health and is already in the stage of recovery, enjoying the care of doctors and nurses.
THE PLAN FOR THE CARNIVAL
Mr. Karvelis referred in detail to the plan that will be implemented this year by the 6th Ministry of Education during the three days of the Carnival, within the framework of the memorandum of cooperation with the EES and includes the following:
– Development of emergency clinics in the “heart” of the city, specifically in Georgiou Square (Esperos)
– Membership of the EES with volunteer rescuers and doctors
– The 6th Ministry of Health will assist with medical personnel, medical equipment and health material.
– Cooperation with EKAB for the development of the business plan
– The Northern Sector Health Center (formerly IKA Agios Alexios), will be operational on the weekend from 12 noon to 12 midnight, with all the necessary medical specialties.
– The EDs (emergency departments) of the city’s two major hospitals (G.N. “Agios Andreas” and PGNP), will be put on full operational readiness, as will the Pediatric Hospital “Karamandaneio”.
– At the same time this year, there will be a psychologist and a social worker in the open-air clinic for cases of panic attacks due to the large crowding.
Finally, Mr. Karvelis pointed out that there will be direct contact and a communication link between the 6th Ministry of Health, Hospitals, EKAB, the Hellenic Red Cross and the KY Northern Sector of Patras, for the smooth operation of the plan.
It is worth noting that the total number of volunteers who will work on the days of the Carnival will be 200 people.
