1872:The first football final of the FA Cup, the oldest football competition in the world, takes place. Wanderers beat Royal Engineers 1-0 to win the trophy.

1964: UN peacekeeping forces land in Cyprus, after the intercommunal riots of December and the creation of the Green Line in Nicosia. On the same day, the Turkish National Assembly authorizes the Government to invade Cyprus.

1967: The decision of the military court on the ASPIDA case is issued. 15 officers are sentenced to heavy penalties and 13 are acquitted. This great trial lasted 100 days (November 14, 1966 – March 16, 1967).

1971: Simon and Garfunkel win two Grammy Awards, for the album “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and the song of the same name.

1978: The Italian terrorist organization “Red Brigades” announces the kidnapping of the former Prime Minister of Italy Aldo Moro and threatens to execute him if the arrested members of the organization are not released.

1993: Aris wins the European Cup (formerly the Cup Winners’ Cup) in basketball. In the final, held in Turin, it defeats the Turkish Efes Pilsen 50-48. It is the first European title for the Thessaloniki team.

1941: Bernardo Bertolucci, Italian film director, with an important work mainly in the 70s. In 1972 he directed the romantic drama “Last Tango in Paris” causing a worldwide scandal, while in 1988 he won an Oscar for best film and direction for his film “The last emperor”. (Thu. 26/11/2018)
