Christos Staikouras traveled by train on Saturday morning from Athens to Lianokladi to inspect the remote control system that has been installed and is operating controlling the traffic of trains from Athens to Promachona.

As the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport said, the part of the railway network (90 km), where the traffic of trains is not controlled by the remote control system, is from Domoko to Larissa due to the disasters of Daniel. In this department, the remote control system will be ready in two years and the cost will be 450 million euros.

“We are working every day for the overall upgrade of the Greek railway, but we are also strengthening the security measures of movements in the entire railway network…”, said Christos Staikouras.

Also, as mentioned by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, actions related to the strengthening of security personnel, the re-evaluation of relevant internal regulations, retraining of personnel, and the establishment – by the OSE – of a special team to monitor radio communications between traffic personnel and train drivers are being launched
