“Battle with time” to locate the missing at the Euroferry Olympia

by

Rescuers who are taking part in the operation to locate the missing after the fire that broke out on the Euroferry Olympia ship are fighting against time.

As the hours go by, however, hopes are dashed that more survivors will be found in the trunk of the fatal ship.

Research teams on boardstill hope for the miracle by continuing their operations throughout the night taking advantage of the good weather conditions that prevailed in the last hours.

Earlier, hopes were revived with the rescue of a 21-year-old driver who was trapped on the burning ship for more than 48 hours.

The young man, who was admitted to the hospital mostly for precautionary reasons, showing slight dehydration, described that he did not eat anything during all these hours and when he drank the water at his disposal he looked for it in other trucks.

He pointed out that he did not see anyone but heard people’s voices.

The optimism caused by the news of the 21-year-old’s whereabouts, a fact that many described as a miracle, was soon followed by sadness as later on Sunday afternoon, the charred body of a 58-year-old Greek driver was found in garage 2.
