The investigations are continued today by specialized teams and EMAK executives on the ship “Euroferry Olympia” to locate the 10 missing, after the fire that broke out on the third deck in the early hours of last Friday in the sea area northeast of Ereikousa during the execution of its planned route from Igoumenitsa to Brindisi.
Inside the ship, it is now said that there are no flames but smoke, while a trailer has been driven to the sea area north of Corfu, where tugs continue to drop water to cool the metal surfaces and drop temperatures. In many parts of the Euroferry Olympia, when the fire was extinguished, the temperature exceeded 500 degrees Celsius.
The force of EMAK, which is already at the point where the ship is moored, is expected to be reinforced today by 42 experienced firefighters, who will operate throughout the ship in order to locate the missing.
It is not ruled out that an attempt will be made to open the doors to the ship’s garages, where the doors are fireproof and closed.
In addition to the temperature inside the ship, fumes and fumes are highly toxic.
EMAK men who boarded the burning ship again yesterday, located the body of a 58-year-old driver in a truck cabin in the garage 2. Earlier, a 21-year-old Belarusian man was rescued, truck driver with Lithuanian license plates.
In the sea area where the ship is located, there are three vessels of the Coast Guard, five tugs, a boat of the Fire Service, while two helicopters remain on standby.
