High school students, representatives of an animal welfare organization and AS Aris joined forces and in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki participated, in the morning, in action of cleaning and beautification of the most central point of the city, the Aristotelous axis.

At the height of the square, overlooking the beach front, the benches were changed on which passers-by rest, and spots that were covered by smudges and graffiti were painted over. These works were done with the assistance and support of AS Aris and the Organizing Committee for the 110th Anniversary of the club’s foundation. The “yellow and black” a few days ago used Aristotelous square to celebrate their birthday.

A little higher, at the height of Vasileos Heraklion, students of the 1st High School from Anatolia College, together with the animal welfare organization “Noiazoami”, took up brooms to clean the area and scrapers to remove the stuck chewing gum from the tiles .

The mayor of Thessaloniki also passed by, Stelios Angeloudis, who talked to the children and thanked them for the initiative they took. “Thank you for your presence helping to raise awareness among the people of Thessaloniki about strays, about cleanliness, about recycling,” Mr. Angeloudis told them.

“You send the message that from the new generations we start a different culture that we must have. Let’s not pollute the environment, take care of it and protect it. Send the message to other schools to do similar actions in their neighborhoods. Our motto is “we keep our city clean”, added the mayor.

The Deputy Mayor for Cleanliness and Recycling, Giorgos Dimarelos, added that “we like these actions very much because they are mainly spontaneous and show the will of the people to participate. The task of cleanliness is the task of all of us”.
