Life sentences were broken for a 23-year-old Algerian who stabbed and killed a 24-year-old compatriot in September 2021 in Thessaloniki.
The Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki found him guilty of manslaughter with intent in a calm state of mind, as well as of illegal carrying and use of weapons, however, he accepted that he was pushed into the act by the victim’s inappropriate behavior, recognizing the relevant mitigating circumstance. Thus, he was sentenced to 16 years and five months in prison, overturning the life sentences imposed on him in the first instance.
The crime occurred late in the evening of September 18, 2021 on Makedoniki Amyni Street in front of the frightened eyes of passers-by.
According to the indictment, perpetrator and victim had a fight, while the 24-year-old allegedly injured the defendant with a pair of scissors.
Then the second entered a fast food restaurant on Aristotelous Street, covered in blood. grab a knife and ran to Makedonikis Amynis Street where he repeatedly stabbed the victim, who breathed his last in the middle of the street.
In his apology, the 23-year-old apologized as, he claimed, he had no intention of killing the victim, whom he said insulted his manhood, which angered him.
After the verdict he returned to prison to serve the rest of his sentence.
