I took care of her Hellenic Policein the region of each Police Directorate throughout the Territory, one or more specially configured areas that function as “safe houses” have been secured, for the short-term safe accommodation of women victims of domestic violence, as well as their family members, such as their minor children , which need protection.

These areas are guarded by the Greek Police while, in cooperation with the structures of the Ministry of Family and Social Cohesion, the Local Government, the Church and other state and non-state social institutions, the victims will be provided with all necessary support. The transport of the victims to “safe houses” will be carried out by the Greek Police.

In addition, citizens now have the possibility to rate the handling of domestic violence incidents through a specific form. Victims are encouraged to fill out the relevant form available at police stations as well as on the Hellenic Police website at the link here.

Finally, the procedure for reporting incidents of domestic violence is recalled:

I need to know that

Domestic violence is prohibited by law.
Her prosecution is ex officio. This means that the competent police services have the obligation to act immediately, when they are informed in any way, by the victim himself or by a third person, about the commission of any crime of domestic violence.
The deposit of a fee or any financial burden is not required.
The offenses of domestic violence are defined in Law 3500/2006, as amended and applicable in provisions of the Criminal Law, and can be distinguished in the following categories:

Physical violence, such as physical injury, harm to health, dangerous and serious physical harm, methodical infliction of severe physical pain or physical exhaustion, dangerous to health, or mental pain, capable of causing serious mental harm, in particular by prolonged isolation of the victim and .a.
Psychological violence, such as threat, harassing monitoring (stalking, i.e. causing fear or anxiety, without threat of violence or other illegal act, by persistent stalking or monitoring, such as in particular by seeking constant contact through the use of telecommunication or electronic means or with repeated visits to his/her family, social or work environment, despite the person’s expressed contrary will), unlawful violence (i.e. coercion into an act, omission or tolerance without the victim’s obligation, by the use of force or the threat of great and immediate danger).

I need to know that

Sexual violence, such as an insult to sexual dignity, by word or deed, rape, etc.
Law 3500/2006 does not provide for any crime that constitutes economic domestic violence or domestic abuse.
However, the offenses of financial violence and verbal abuse are provided for and punished under the provisions of the Criminal Law and I can report them.

Domestic violence concerns all family relationships (parents, children, siblings, grandparents, uncles, cousins, nieces and other 3rd and 4th degree relatives if they live together). At the same time, they concern spouses, persons connected by a cohabitation agreement, permanent partners and their children, bride, groom, father-in-law and brother-in-law.

In addition, it concerns the ex-spouse, parties to a cohabitation agreement that has been terminated, ex-permanent partners, as well as persons residing in a social care provider (art. 6 & 9 L.3500/06), commissioner, legal assistant and foster parent, if they live together.

I must remember that:

If there is domestic violence against me or another member of my family,
If I cannot understand that what is happening is domestic violence,
If I fear for the life or physical integrity of mine or another member of my family,
If I know that a fellow human being (friend, colleague, neighbor, etc.) is subjected to domestic violence,
Then I go to any Domestic Violence Office or Police Department to find out about the procedures, the law and my rights.

Caution

I always keep in mind that if there is an incident of domestic violence going on:

against me,
against a member of my family,
at the expense of another person.
I call “100”

I can also send a text message if I can’t talk. It is important that I state precisely the address I am at and state that this is an emergency.

I go to the nearest Police Station.

I bear in mind that:

Regardless of whether I wish to press charges or not, police officers are required by law when they become aware of domestic violence offenses to file a case and inform the appropriate Prosecutor.
The officers of the Domestic Violence Bureau or the Police Department will handle the case reported to them, regardless of where I live or where the incident occurred.
When I am in the Police Service:
I will be provided with medical care if I need it.
Confidentiality and confidentiality will be maintained and my privacy will be ensured.
I will be given the time I need to calm down, feel safe and describe what happened to me.
I will be asked to report what happened, provide any evidence I have (eg photos, medical reports, etc.) and recommend witnesses.
It is important to mention previous reports of domestic violence that I have made or incidents that have occurred but I have not reported them.

I need to know that:

It is important to mention any evidence that indicates an increased risk (such as the existence of a firearm, history of substance use – alcohol, etc.).

If required, I will be provided with interpretation.
I will be given an order for a forensic examination, in case I have been subjected to physical or sexual violence, and my transfer to the competent Service will be facilitated.
The order will be assigned to me, even if I don’t want it.

I will be informed with printed material about the support structures that exist in my area.
The police officers will contact the support structures in order to provide, where appropriate, assistance.

A record will be made in the Service’s Offenses and Incidents Book, for the incident of domestic violence that I report/report, a copy of which I can request and receive.
I will need to provide the police with any information I know that may assist in the arrest of the perpetrator, while the automatic process lasts.
I will ask for clarification at any stage of the process and for anything I do not understand.
It is important to know that:
I will be informed by the police officer who is handling my case, about his name and rank, the contact number of the Service and the protocol number of the case file.
I will ask the police officer to access the “panic button” geotropism smart device app, which I can use easily and instantly, whenever I feel in danger.
To install the application I am facilitated by the police officer.

If I do not want or cannot access the “panic button” application, but I am in danger, call or text (with address and type of emergency) to “100”.

I will ask the police officer to inform me about the possibilities of immediate transportation and accommodation in a safe place.
It is important to know that:
I use the “panic button” or contact “100”:

If I continue to fear or feel in danger,
If I need immediate assistance and protection.
I contact the Domestic Violence Office or the Police Department as often as necessary:

If I need information and clarifications,
If I wish to report additional or supplementary information.
