Immediately the Greek Ministry of Shipping, the Chamber of Operations in Piraeus and the Embassy of Panama coordinated to locate and rescue Mr. Lefteris Kafetzis
After all, someone else is the true “survivor”, as it seems, and not the one James Cafetziswho is participating – for the second time – in this year’s event “Survivor”.
More specifically, the father of the well-known player lived a nightmare, as, as it became known, he was shipwrecked in the Pacific Ocean. Mike Cafetzis, the player’s brother, described in SKAI bulletin the adventure experienced by his father, Lefteris.
How his dream of sailing around the world almost turned into a nightmare, as a few days ago he was saved, literally, at a “para five” by a Colombian fishing boat, in the middle of the Pacific.
“It started in Rhodes, went to Italy, then Spain, then went through Gibraltar, went to the Canary Islands, went down to Cabo Verde. In 2016, we crossed the Atlantic together, which took us 12 days – me, my father and my brother – and reached the opposite side of Barbados. We spent three winters there and then my father continued to Colombia, crossed the Panama Canal and arrived in Panama.”he said.
However, a series of misfortunes, as well as very bad weather, were enough for them to lose track of his father in the middle of the ocean. “In the evening, while sailing, he caught a heavy bilge, broke the mast, and created a crack in the fore part of the ship”his son revealed.
And he added: “Because my father didn’t have enough battery and it happened to be cloudy both days, the batteries went flat and at one point the pumps stopped pumping the water that was coming into the ship. This resulted in the ship slowly sinking. The boat was literally “hitting” left and right. My father fell and hit his hip and lay down on the ship’s bridge to avoid more serious injury. For 24 hours he was lying on the floor of the ship.”
Immediately the Greek Ministry of Shipping, the Chamber of Operations in Piraeus and the Embassy of Panama coordinated to locate and rescue Mr. Lefteris Kafetzis. In the end, everything went well and Mr. Kafetzis’ adventure had a happy ending.
