In November 2024, the main line of the metro will be delivered to the city
It is expected to be completed by the middle of next month the charging station for the 110 electric buses of OASTH and these will circulate on the streets of the city in the same period, while the main line of the Thessaloniki metro will be put into use in November 2024.
The aforementioned was pointed out by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouraswho together with the competent deputy minister, Christina Alexopoulou, visited the site next to the OASTH depot in Stavroupoli where the works for the construction of the charging station are being carried out and after inspecting the site, expressed their satisfaction with the progress recorded in their execution.
It is noted that the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportaccompanied by the president and managing director of OASTH, Konstantinos Tangiris and other executives of the organization.
“We visited once again the premises of the electric bus charging station. This is a difficult emblematic project, a legacy project for the city of Thessaloniki, a project which is expected to be completed by the middle of next month”, pointed out Mr. Staikouras and added that “this in combination with the fact that they have already advanced the test routes of the electric buses in the city of Thessaloniki – indeed, some of them have traveled more than 2,500 kilometers – demonstrate that the goal we have set with the circulation of electric buses in the city of Thessaloniki in the coming weeks will be achieved”.
Of course, as he hastened to mention, “this is the first essential step to strengthen and improve the everyday life of the citizen, but also to strengthen the credibility towards our compatriots, in the city of Thessaloniki. The next major project to be completed is the metro in Thessaloniki, in November 2024”, he emphasized and added that “so two important commitments that we had made with specific timetables since September, are being implemented within the time frame”, he said.
From her side the Deputy Minister of Transport, Christina Alexopouloupraised the cooperation of all the involved bodies for the course of execution of the works of the electric bus charging station of the OASTH, saying characteristically “it is the proof of what we can do when we work together well and with a common goal”.
The electric bus charging station
The construction project of the charging station for the 110 electric buses of the OASTH in an area next to the depot of the organization in Stavroupoli, has a budget of 8.7 million euros and 28 dual charging chargers will also be installed in it.
In order for each of the 110 electric buses to be released, they must first complete 5,000 kilometers of test routes, then their final receipt and payment will take place, followed by the issuance of a joint ministerial decision by the Ministries of Finance and Infrastructure & Transport, for their delivery to the OASTH and finally to issue the normal plates, as pointed out.
