OPKE police officers arrested a 20-year-old driver of an SUV early this morning, after a chase, who committed multiple violations of the Road Traffic Code in the center of Athens.

A case file was filed against the arrested person by the Athens Traffic Sub-Directorate for dangerous driving, disturbing the safety of transport, insubordination and attempted dangerous bodily harm.

In particular, according to ELAS, OPKE police officers spotted the 20-year-old’s vehicle and tried to check it. Using sound and light means, they called the driver to stop his vehicle, however, the 20-year-old developed speed and began to successively violate red signals, moving through the streets of the center of Athens, committing multiple violations of the Road Traffic Code.

Police officers from the Athens Traffic Sub-Directorate’s drunk driving control team, who were at that time on Stadiou Street, tried to stop the vehicle with their signal, but the driver developed speed and tried to drag them away.

As pointed out by ELAS, throughout the pursuit, the 20-year-old was monitored by the official vehicles, in order to avoid the risk of causing a traffic accident with another vehicle or pedestrian, while at the same time he was constantly asked to stop the vehicle.

Finally, the vehicle was stopped safely by OPKE police officers. on Athena street.

There it was found that he lacked a driver’s license, while in the context of the traffic control, he was confirmed with traffic violations for driving under the influence of alcohol, violating a red light, making dangerous maneuvers, etc. and the corresponding administrative fines were imposed on him.

In addition, the vehicle in question was impounded.

The arrested person was taken to the criminal prosecutor of Athens.
